Job description
Job Overview

The Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service is a full multidisciplinary team (MDT) providing complex perinatal mental health care across North Central London. The WEST TEAM covers Barnet and works closely with maternity sites, children’s centres and community settings. The role involves home visits, group activities, video calls and liaison with families and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out home visits and run groups, baby massage, weaning and other perinatal support.
  • Deliver evidence‑based interventions focusing on prevention, promotion and early intervention.
  • Identify service‑user goals using specialist assessment tools and plan and deliver supportive interventions to parents caring for their babies.
  • Liaise with colleagues, external stakeholders, service users and families to ensure safe, culturally competent care.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping and communicate effectively using written, verbal and electronic skills.
  • Attend perinatal birth planning meetings, child in need meetings, child protection meetings and other clinical meetings as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Relevant qualifications for perinatal mental health (e.g., psychiatric, psychological, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, family therapy, peer support, pharmacy).
  • Experience working with complex perinatal mental health needs and supporting parents and babies.
  • Good awareness of child development and ways of working with children.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in partnership with parents and MDT members.
  • Recognise and promote all aspects of cultural diversity and respond positively to ethnic awareness/sensitivity.

The post may require working at different locations within Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington or other sites as considered reasonable. Access to a car is desirable but not essential.
