Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks a registered midwife to join a supportive team delivering holistic care across antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum periods. You will work across Banbury and surrounding areas, providing clinic and home visits, with a day/night on‑call service for community births.

Candidates must hold UK registration, have completed NMC preceptorship, and ideally hold a mentor/practice supervisor qualification. A Band 6 level experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Registered Midwife with current UK Registration.
  • Has completed NMC preceptorship and/or has worked as band 6 midwife or equivalent.
  • Mentor/Practice Supervisor Qualification (advantage).

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic midwifery care across antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum periods.
  • Deliver care in clinic appointments and home visits, with driving between sites.
  • Participate in a day/night on‑call service and community births across Oxfordshire.
  • Rotate to multiple maternity units and departments to support low/high risk women.

Job description

The postholder is required to provide holistic midwifery care to services users across the antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum period within the Bicester Area and surrounding areas of Oxfordshire. We have a diverse caseload of service users within our catchment area. We provide care in the form of clinic appointments and home visits, so a driving license with appropriate insurance is essential. Our team also provide an on-call service (day and night on calls), where we facilitate community births across the county, supporting other teams as well as our own. We also support the Obstetric Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital as part of an escalation policy., Full and Part Time hours are available. Must be a car driver and have access to a car during the day and for night on-calls. You will be required to work community on-call shifts during the day and night time., We have 4 stand‑alone Midwifery-Led Birth units within the county. These are based at Banbury, Chipping Norton, Wantage and Wallingford and we also offer home births to all areas. As a tertiary hospital, the John Radcliffe is composed of a Delivery Suite with 3 Maternity Theatres and a specific Maternity Recovery Ward. We work closely with specialist services such as the Fetal and Maternal Medicine Unit, Breech Team, and Maternity Bereavement Teams. Midwives employed within the service have the opportunity to rotate to all our units/departments providing care to both low and high risk women. For those working with us, we have a substantial support network for staff, focusing on wellbeing and development. This includes a team of professional Midwifery Advocates, Wellbeing Champions, staff networks and a staff Maternity Psychologist. You will be supported by the Practice Development Team who provide regular study days and updates and support staff clinically. We are looking for a midwife who demonstrates kindness and compassion, and who is passionate about providing a gold standard of care. We have a very supportive team of midwives and support workers in Banbury, so adding to this nurturing atmosphere is essential. Candidates must have an existing NMC with UK Midwifery experience and have completed their preceptorship in a UK hospital. They must be currently working at a Band 6 level,
