A mental health charity is looking for a Community Mental Health Support Worker to support individuals in accessing mainstream services and promote behaviour change for improved wellbeing. This remote role requires candidates based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Ideal applicants will have experience or understanding of mental health issues and strong communication skills. Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Mental Health Support Worker to join our Community Mental Health Support Service!

This is a fixed-term role (until June 2026), 37.5 hours per week.

This is a remote role, however requires someone who is based in the North East (Newcastle upon Tyne).

About You

The role supports people with mental health problems in accessing mainstream activities and resources. Assisting individuals to either reduce reliance on or move on successfully from specialist mental health provision.

  • Support individuals with mental health needs to access mainstream services and reduce reliance on specialist provision.
  • Promote lasting behaviour change to improve mental and physical wellbeing.
  • Help individuals develop self-management strategies for their mental health.
  • Reduce social isolation by supporting connections within the local community.
  • Provide practical support through signposting to relevant services for housing, benefits, and employment.
About You:
  • Lived or professional experience of mental health issues and understanding of service users' needs
  • Knowledge of mental health recovery principles, stigma, and discrimination
  • Willingness to complete a basic mental health qualification
  • Strong organisational, time management, and self-motivation skills
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Confident in facilitating and participating in group work
  • Competent in using IT systems and software (e.g. Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Ability to write clear reports and analyse/present data effectively
  • Able to travel independently to community locations as part of the role
