Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking an experienced Band 6 Registered Learning Disability Nurse to join the East Renfrewshire Learning Disability Team. The post focuses on delivering evidence-based interventions, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs, and providing person-centred care within an integrated MDT.

The role is permanent, full-time, with a 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM shift.

Qualifications

  • Registered Learning Disability Nurse with extensive experience.
  • Evidence delivery of evidence-based interventions.
  • Strong understanding of legislation for adults with learning disabilities.
  • Experience with Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Knowledge of promoting health for adults with learning disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an independent caseload with high care quality and safety.
  • Provide clinical leadership and guidance across quality areas.
  • Mentor and support students and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with HSCP senior nurses and partners.
  • Develop liaison between community and specialist organisations.
  • Support research and development in community learning disability services.
  • Implement and monitor Clinical Governance quality assurance.

Job description

The Role

A highly skilled and motivated Band 6 Registered Learning Disability Nurse working within the East Renfrewshire Learning Disability Team. The role involves delivering evidence-based interventions, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and complex health needs, and contributing to high-quality, person-centred care within an integrated multidisciplinary service.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Permanent, Full-time

Shift Pattern - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Base location - Barrhead Health and Care Centre

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage an independent caseload and ensure high standards of care quality, safety and clinical activity.
  • Provide clinical leadership, advice and guidance across key quality areas, including effective interventions, patient experience and care environment.
  • Contribute to team leadership and ongoing service development to meet the needs of patients and families.
  • Act as a role model by mentoring, teaching, assessing and supporting students and colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with senior nurses across the HSCP and promote the role of Learning Disability nursing to internal and external partners.
  • Build transparent and effective networks with stakeholders and partner services.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based care for individuals with complex and changing needs.
  • Deliver specialist clinical interventions and treatment to meet assessed healthcare needs.
  • Develop liaison between community and specialist organisations (acute services, local authorities, voluntary organisations).
  • Support strategic aims, research and development of the community learning disability service and nurse education.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance systems within a Clinical Governance framework.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • Registered Learning Disability Nurse with extensive experience.
  • Ability to evidence delivery of evidence-based interventions.
  • Strong understanding of legislation relevant to adults with learning disabilities.
  • Experience in Positive Behavioural Support (PBS).
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Knowledge and expertise in promoting and maintaining optimum health for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team (advantageous).
  • Ability to demonstrate professional leadership regularly.
  • Understanding of issues impacting adults with learning disabilities and appropriate actions to support them.
