Job summary

Law Staff Ltd is recruiting a Community Care Solicitor to join a specialist legal aid practice in the UK. You will manage a varied claimant community care caseload, acting for vulnerable adults, children and families in challenging decisions made by local authorities and public bodies.

You will work alongside experienced housing and public law practitioners in a supportive and expanding team with flexible remote or hybrid working, ongoing training and career development to help you make a real

Qualifications

  • Qualified Solicitor with a current practising certificate and eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Experience in Community Care, Public Law and/or Court of Protection essential.
  • Strong communication and client care skills required.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied community care and public law caseload.
  • Challenging assessments, care plans and local authority decisions.
  • Pursuing Judicial Review claims where appropriate.
  • Advising clients on community care and Court of Protection matters.
  • Ensuring safeguarding and statutory duties are met by local authorities.
  • Negotiations, advocacy and timely billing.
  • Maintaining regular client communication and high-quality service.
  • Supervising junior staff where appropriate.

Community Care Solicitor — Position Overview

You will manage a varied claimant community care caseload, acting for vulnerable adults, children and families in challenging decisions made by local authorities and public bodies. You will work alongside experienced housing and public law practitioners in a supportive and expanding team.

Key Responsibilities of the Community Care Solicitor
  • Managing a varied community care and public law caseload
  • Challenging assessments, care plans and local authority decisions
  • Identifying and pursuing Judicial Review claims where appropriate
  • Advising clients on community care and Court of Protection matters
  • Ensuring local authorities comply with safeguarding and statutory duties
  • Conducting negotiations, advocacy and correspondence as required
  • Maintaining excellent client care and regular communication with clients
  • Recording time accurately and ensuring matters are billed promptly
  • Ensuring Legal Aid Agency requirements and compliance obligations are met
  • Supervising junior staff where appropriate
Requirements of the Community Care Solicitor
  • Qualified Solicitor with a current practising certificate
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Community Care, Public Law and/or Court of Protection work
  • Experience challenging assessments, care plans and local authority decisions
  • Strong knowledge of community care law, public law and legal aid funding
  • Experience using CCMS and Legal Aid Agency systems desirable
  • Excellent communication and client care skills
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Genuine commitment to access to justice and supporting vulnerable clients
