Job Description

The Girls First Fund (GFF) is seeking a collaborative and motivated Communications Officer to join our communications team. As a Communications Officer, you will work directly with the Director of Communications, and in collaboration with other members of the team, to implement our communications strategy and plans.

The Communications Officer will assist in several key functions, including:

  • Supporting the implementation of GFF’s communications strategy and annual plans and budgets
  • Coordinating content creation and story gathering with GFF team members and grantee partners
  • Supporting outreach and learning dissemination
  • Helping to maintain and update GFF website and social media channels
  • Supporting joint communications initiatives with strategic partners
Responsibilities
Communications Strategy and Plans Implementation
  • Assist in the development and implementation of GFF’s annual communication plans and budgets.
  • Help to coordinate the overall communications and content strategy.
  • Support liaison and joint communications initiatives with GFF’s strategic partners, such as VOW For Girls, Girls Not Brides, and grantee partners.
  • Contribute to communications learning and evaluation strategies.
  • Support collaboration with key sections including programs, learning and fundraising
  • Conceptualise and implement campaigns and other initiatives to leverage key commemorative opportunities (e.g. International Day of the Girls).
  • Help develop project timelines and coordinate work across staff and partners.
Website and Digital Media
  • Support the management of the Girls First Fund website, ensuring continuity and consistency with brand identity and core messaging.
  • Assist with regular audits and content updates for the GFF website.
  • Help establish systems for analyzing website analytics and use of this data to inform digital strategy.
  • Support the development and management of the editorial calendar and contribute new content.
  • Maintain and share content across GFF’s social media and other digital channels.
  • Draft, schedule, and execute social media posts, monitor responses and coordinate engagement.
  • Liaise with website and other digital platform vendors to ensure security.
Content Development and Publications
  • Draft and edit articles, human interest stories, features, and other relevant content for GFF’s website.
  • Develop tailored and engaging content for GFF’s social media pages.
  • Spearhead creative initiatives and campaigns to amplify the work and voices of GFF’s grantee partners.
  • Support the development of content for a GFF newsletter.
  • Support the production management of publications and communication products such as newsletters, annual reports, presentations, and videos.
  • Support the search, selection and management process for vendors such as graphic designers, illustrators and photographers.
Administrative and Team Support
  • Support the planning of outreach and engagement events including webinars, participation in international meetings etc
  • Assist in coordinating and managing files, resources and the GFF media library
  • Support the management of mailing lists and audience segments.
  • Assist in strengthening grantees’ communications capacity.
  • Support the development of tools and materials for crisis management.
Other Duties
  • Actively participate in internal team initiatives and activities
  • Carry out other duties relevant to the role, as assigned
Role Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years of strategic communications experience (preferably in non-profit, gender justice and/or philanthropy)
  • Strong writing and editing skills with an emphasis on clear, inspiring and persuasive (background in graphic/web design a plus)
  • Ability to navigate and use content management platforms, including WordPress, Canva, Google Drive, Dropbox, Mailchimp, etc.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English required; Proficiency in French or Spanish a plus
  • Experience with Google and social media analytics and ability to use data to inform digital strategy
  • Strong orientation toward collaboration and capacity to drive work independently and think creatively
  • Ability to set clear and measurable goals while holding space for emergence, experimentation, and group processes
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, and economic justice
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate openly in a team environment with multiple constituencies and audiences, and the ability to build relationships of trust
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible, creative, welcome uncertainty, take initiative, juggle multiple priorities, and adapt to circumstances
  • Strong judgment and discretion in dealing with sensitive information
  • Direct experience in one or more of GFF’s regions a plus: Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
  • Must be willing to be available for events and meetings on Eastern Standard Time and Pacific Standard Time, as necessary
