Job description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Are you an undergraduate looking for a high-impact placement role in a healthcare organisation with a clear purpose to 'do now what patients need next'? If that’s you, please read on, as we’re looking for a passionate, driven Communications Intern to join our award-winning Communications team at Roche Diagnostics UK and Ireland for a sandwich year placement.

The Communications team at Roche Diagnostics UK and Ireland sits within the broader marketing function. We play a critical role in connecting our stakeholders - including our customers, clinicians, healthcare policy makers, and our wonderful employees - to the Roche Diagnostics brand and business strategy so we remain a trusted partner to all. We’re looking for a flexible and hardworking undergraduate who is passionate about communications and would like to spend their placement year working in one of the world’s most respected and established biotechnology companies. You will gain deep insight into the world of an in-house communications team, the diagnostics industry and the healthcare sector through being part of a fast-paced, collaborative team. You will be involved in a variety of activities to support the team as well as having the opportunity to manage your own standalone projects.

The Opportunity

In this role, you’ll support the day-to-day running of the Communications team, working closely with other team members to execute our projects and activities. Specifically, you will:

  • Manage and maintain our internal digital channels and help populate our external digital channels (social media, website).
  • Coordinate editorial scheduling across our platforms.
  • Get involved in content creation and storytelling for selected campaigns.
  • Work with third-party agencies on targeted communications projects.
  • Curate, design, and issue our weekly internal newsletter.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams that require communications expertise.
  • Support key administrative tasks, including raising purchase orders, scheduling team meetings, and helping the Head of Communications coordinate events.
  • Act as an active corporate brand ambassador.
  • Monitor and manage the daily Communications team email inbox.
Who you are

We are a relatively small team, so everyone plays a pivotal role, and you’ll be no exception. We’re looking for someone with genuine enthusiasm, integrity, and plenty of initiative. You’ll be highly organized and efficient and keen to get stuck into a wide variety of tasks. If you have prior coursework, extracurricular experience, or internships in communications, marketing, media, public relations, or healthcare that would be great but it's definitely not required. As a communicator, you’ll need to be able to translate complex, scientific information into digestible, engaging content with clear messages.

Key requirements and useful skills
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree with an option for a 1-year industrial placement / sandwich year.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (with an eye for storytelling).
  • Strong digital and social media fluency.
  • Great time management and organizational skills.
  • Curiosity, a proactive mindset, and a willingness to give new challenges a try.

Get the support you need If you bring a growth mindset, integrity, and passion, we will support you to develop professionally and personally by equipping you with real-world skills and expertise. You’ll receive ongoing mentoring and hands‑on training from our experienced team. You’ll also join our friendly and active Early in Careers network, where you can connect, collaborate, and share your placement year with interns and graduate trainees from across other departments and business functions.

Please note: Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for this role. Candidates must already hold a valid authorisation to work in the UK.
