Job description
About the Role and our Ideal Candidate

You’ll play an important role in our busy and supportive team, helping to ensure the Council speaks with one voice, seeks out and listens to all opinions and concerns of local residents, businesses and partners, delivers on its commitments and responds honestly.

You’ll work with team members to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate content for different audiences across a range of service areas.

No two days are the same! Over the course of each week, you'll likely be:

  • Pitching content ideas to the team
  • Meeting businesses, residents and staff to create and edit video, photography and written content
  • Designing materials using tools such as Canva or Adobe
  • Writing accessible communications for webpages, social media, newsletters and print
  • Using content management systems and tools to update web pages, schedule social media and build e-newsletters
  • Evaluating the impact and effectiveness of campaigns.

We are looking for someone who can take a strategic approach to communicating with residents and has the skills to tailor content for different channels and audiences. This person should have some experience of working within a complex, political environment with a practical understanding of the challenges facing the public sector.

There are so many opportunities for us to tell Sutton’s story, but with conflicting demands, we need someone who is organised, who can prioritise, and who can spot and capture great content. The role therefore requires the ability to work from the office and/or be out in the borough capturing content at least two days a week.

Communications is always evolving, so when it comes to technical skills, training and support will be provided. What is most important is a positive, proactive approach and willingness to learn.
