Job summary

Essex Area FE College is seeking a dedicated Communication Support & Therapy Specialist to help learners develop communication, language and social interaction skills within a supportive college environment.

You will work with learners who have speech and language needs, collaborating with teaching staff, parents, carers and external professionals to create personalised strategies and targeted support to remove barriers to learning.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or relevant equivalent qualification.
  • HCPC registration or relevant experience in speech, language and communication support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, empathetic and learner-centred approach.
  • Experience supporting young people with SEND is desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assess learners' communication needs and identify strategies to support development.
  • Develop and deliver tailored communication support plans and interventions.
  • Support learners with speech, language, social communication and interaction skills.
  • Provide guidance to teaching staff and support teams.
  • Collaborate with EHCP coordinators and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Monitor learner progress and maintain records.
  • Contribute to learner reviews and EHCP outcomes where appropriate.
  • Support inclusive learning environments.
  • Help learners build confidence and independence in communication.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Communication Support & Therapy Specialist to join a welcoming and inclusive Further Education college in the Essex area this September.

The Opportunity

As a Communication Support & Therapy Specialist, you'll work closely with learners who have a range of speech, language, communication, and interaction needs, supporting them to access education, develop essential life skills, and achieve their personal goals.

Working alongside teaching staff, learning support teams, parents, carers, and external professionals, you'll use your specialist knowledge to create personalised communication strategies, provide targeted support, and help learners overcome barriers to learning.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For
