Job summary

A local government council in Bacup is looking for a proactive Communication & Engagement Manager to lead their communications efforts. You will shape corporate strategies and engage with the community effectively. The ideal candidate should have strong public sector communications experience and excellent leadership skills. Job description

We’re looking for a creative, strategic and proactive Communication & Engagement Manager to help deliver our Valley Plan and strengthen how the Council communicates, engages and performs.

In this key role, you’ll :

  • Lead and develop our Communications, Policy & Performance Officer
  • Shape and deliver our corporate communications strategy
  • Provide expert advice to senior officers and elected members
  • Oversee media relations, digital channels and marketing campaigns
  • Manage crisis communications and reputation activity
  • Drive community engagement and consultation initiatives
  • Ensure strong corporate branding and accessible digital content
  • Oversee policy development and corporate performance reporting
  • Support business planning and continuity processes

We’re seeking someone with strong public sector communications experience, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work confidently in a fast-paced, politically sensitive environment. A degree in communications (or equivalent experience) is essential.
