Common Service Lead (Inside IR35 - Contract)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Common Service Lead to join our team based at Sizewell on a major infrastructure project. This is an inside IR35 contract opportunity within a highly regulated environment, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of large-scale construction works.

Reporting directly to the Site Operations Site Lead, you will manage and implement two key service contracts - each valued at approximately £50 million - covering both Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance and Utility Operations & Maintenance.

You will ensure the effective operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of temporary and permanent infrastructure assets required to support project delivery. This includes supervision of Tier 1 contractors, management of safety and quality performance, and delivery to schedule and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the delivery of infrastructure and utility service contracts (total value ~£100m) throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage the provision of critical live infrastructure support for a construction workforce of circa 8,000.
  • Drive safe, high-quality, and timely delivery through collaborative planning and supervision.
  • Support contract partners to ensure efficient, compliant, and coordinated delivery.
  • Identify and mitigate safety and quality risks, ensuring proactive issue resolution.
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration across project teams (H&S, logistics, project controls, etc.).
  • Oversee service partner performance, ensuring competence, compliance, and delivery to scope.
  • Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and performance reporting.
  • Produce monthly performance and budget reports for senior management.
About You
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Proven management or leadership experience in a highways maintenance, infrastructure, or similar construction service‑led environment.
  • Experience managing multi‑million‑pound contracts on major, regulated projects.
  • Skilled in contractor management and coordinating large teams across complex operations.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and quality management in construction.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships.
  • Confident, proactive, and capable of making sound decisions in dynamic environments.
Desirable
  • HND or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Experience with statutory permits, licences, and quality assurance processes.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, NEC3 TSC contracts, and budget control.
  • Experience working with local supply chain partners and promoting a "one team" approach.
