Job Description:

Job Title: Commissioning Service Engineer - HV/LV Switchgear

Location: London / South of England / Midlands - Travelling appointment role

Your Mission: To perform installation, commissioning, modification, and maintenance of electrical distribution equipment at UK and overseas locations. Traveling to various locations in UK & Overseas and working in a flexible 24/7 cover in a rotating shift pattern.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise/perform activities on switchgear, transformers, and related equipment between 0.4kV – 33kV at UK, overseas, and offshore locations.
  2. Off-loading and installation of new panels, switchgear, and transformers.
  3. Commissioning of electrical equipment, wiring modifications, and retrofit upgrades.
  4. Planned maintenance, partial discharge testing, thermal imaging, oil sampling, etc.
  5. Systems testing, fault diagnosis, installation of sensors and hardware.
  6. Perform site risk assessments, produce method statements, document test results, and produce site work reports.
  7. Assist in formulating offers for site activities and participate in customer training.
  8. Promote company services, identify business opportunities, and provide emergency support as part of the OnCall rota system.
  9. Supervise onsite personnel including team members and subcontractors.
  10. Liaise with installation/project managers.

Important Criteria:

  • Produce site reports/test results within 2 working days.
  • Complete timesheets and expenses weekly.
  • Complete health & safety documentation weekly.
  • Complete method statements and risk assessments within set timescales.
  • Complete installations and maintenance against agreed timescales.

About You:

  • Experience in installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of switchgear & associated plant.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team at UK, overseas, and offshore locations.
  • Customer-focused with a service-oriented approach.
  • Willing to work at nuclear, military, and offshore locations.
  • Full driving license.
  • Strong grounding in electrical safety principles for live HV networks.
  • Academic qualifications (e.g., Degree/HNC) or relevant experience.
  • Experience with high voltage testing, CT magnetisation curves, relay secondary injection, control circuit wiring testing, and mechanical/electrical testing of switchboards.
