Job summary

A public sector organization based in Gloucester is seeking a Commissioning Officer to join their team on a full-time, temporary basis. Job description

Our client, a well-established public sector organisation with a strong reputation for service delivery, based in Gloucester, has an exciting new opportunity for a Commissioning Officer to join their team on a full-time, temporary basis due to increased demand and additional activity for the commissioning department in the new year. The working hours for this role will be Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00, with a minimum requirement of 1 day a week in the office which could be increased dependent on business needs.

The successful Commissioning Officer should have:
  • Experience working in a commissioning or procurement environment, either as a provider or support within the infrastructure of a commissioning department
  • Strong project support skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills across multi-agency partners
  • The ability to analyse research, evidence and customer insight to inform commissioning decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting information clearly
In this role, the Commissioning Officer will be responsible for:
  • Supporting lead commissioners and outcome managers to commission and decommission services which meet customer needs and deliver value for money
  • Assisting with commissioning and procurement exercises, including drafting specifications in line with legislation and best practice
  • Undertaking contract monitoring and supporting effective performance management with providers
  • Conducting research, market analysis, and customer engagement to inform commissioning decisions
  • Supporting and delivering project work, stakeholder communications, and risk-based updates
