Wood Commissioning is recruiting for an experienced Commissioning Environment Engineer to support EDF at Hinkley Point C (HPC). Ideally based locally to the area, successful candidates will be engaged on a 12 month rolling PAYE contract working 40 hrs/week Monday to Friday at the HPC Site in Bridgwater.
Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. As the first of the UK’s next generation of Nuclear power stations, HPC is both of high profile and high complexity. The HPC Commissioning Programme is expanding as it begins commissioning HPC, the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK in a generation.
We are seeking an Environment Engineer to help ensure environmental safety and compliance across the HPC Commissioning Programme. In this role as part of the Commissioning and Pre-Operations organisation (CommOps), you will work in a dynamic environment and contribute your knowledge and skills to advise on the preparation and execution of commissioning activities at HPC. Working collaboratively with other areas, teams and programmes, you will help maintain environmental safety and compliance standards.
The Commissioning Environment Engineer is part of the CommOps Industrial and Fire Safety professional team. The post holder will report to the Commissioning Environment Lead and will work closely with Commissioning Delivery teams across the project to enable them to carry out their critical work in a manner that minimises their impact on the environment.
The Commissioning Environment Engineer will also be responsible for promoting adherence to, and compliance with, all applicable statutory Environmental legislative requirements, along with identifying and providing guidance on matters relating to Environmental non‑compliances. You will provide advice and guidance to ensure smooth reporting and resolution of environmental safety issues. This will include planning, delivering and reviewing environmental compliance activities, conducting environmental assurance and surveillance on the HPC Site, and supporting delivery of technical workstreams within the field of environmental safety.
As part of the role, you will collaborate with a range of safety focused professionals, including specialists in Industrial Safety, Fire Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Chemistry and Quality management. Together, you will contribute to the overall HPC CommOps safety arrangements. Building strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the HPC project will be crucial in ensuring well-defined and controlled interfaces with the commissioning safety process.
The Commissioning Environment Engineer will also liaise closely with the network of environmental professionals within HPC and EDF Energy, including but not limited to the Pre-Operations Environment Team, NNB Principal Contractor Environment Team, and the NNB Client Environment Team.
Hinkley Point C (HPC) is a first‑of‑a‑kind UK EPR nuclear construction project and one of the most complex engineering undertakings in Europe. The Commissioning Programme leads the transition from construction to operation, demonstrating to regulators that systems are safe, compliant and ready for service.
