Job description

Avery Healthcare is one of the UK's largest providers of luxury elderly care homes, dedicated to creating meaningful experiences for both residents and employees. As a Commis Chef, you will be part of a supportive and inspiring environment where your compassion and dedication can make a real difference in the lives of the residents.

Responsibilities

As a Commis Chef, your primary role will be to assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks. You will work in different areas of the kitchen, such as vegetables, fish and meat, and sauces, usually on a six-month rotation programme. You will be responsible for supporting all chefs to manage and deliver all catering services throughout the home, ensuring resident choice, dignity, confidentiality, and safety are maintained. You will also participate in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments to discuss and agree on catering functions across the home and address residents\' special needs or dietary requirements.

  • Preparing nutritional food and beverages to a high standard, as directed by the Chefs, promptly and in accordance with agreed mealtimes.
  • Preparing special diet meals as needed and as directed by the Chefs.

  • Hold a catering qualification such as City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent.
  • Hold Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.

  • Demonstrate compassion and commitment to the delivery of high-quality culinary services to residents.
  • Be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.
