Job description

This role as a Commis Chef at Avery Healthcare in Epsom offers the opportunity to work in a supportive and caring environment, assisting the Chef de Partie in preparing and delivering high-quality meals for the residents. The successful candidate will have a catering qualification and at least 1 year of experience, demonstrating compassion and commitment to providing excellent culinary services.

About the role

Role: Commis Chef – assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks. Work across kitchen sections (vegetables, fish and meat, and sauces) with a typical six-month rotation. Support all chefs in managing and delivering catering services to residents, ensuring choice, dignity, and safety. Prepare nutritious meals and beverages to a high standard, including special diet meals as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Support all chefs to manage and deliver catering services throughout the home, ensuring resident choice, dignity, confidentiality, and safety are maintained.
  • Participate in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments to discuss and agree on catering functions across the home and address residents' special needs or dietary requirements, including knowledge of cultural and religious preferences.
  • Prepare nutritional food and beverages to a high standard, promptly and in accordance with agreed mealtimes.
  • Prepare special diet meals as needed and as directed by the Chefs.

  • Be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.
