Attention all Commis Chefs who are looking for a start into their culinary career joining a prestigious & highly established private school in the North London/Essex area. Working with a talented team of 30 chefs, kitchen assistants & porters, cooking for 1100 students. Join Our Outstanding Catering Team as a Commis Chef! One of the country’s leading co-educational day schools is seeking a talented and motivated Commis Chef to join our dynamic Catering Department. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a vibrant, community-focused environment, where you’ll contribute to delivering high-quality meals to both colleagues and students. As a Commis Chef, you’ll assist with food preparation, ensure the quality receipt and storage of ingredients, and produce delicious dishes in line with our school’s high culinary standards. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining smooth kitchen operations — working collaboratively within a professional and supportive team led by our Chef de Partie and Junior Sous-Chef.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Preparing and producing quality meals to meet the school’s food standards
  • Following designated recipes and presentation guidelines
  • Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen
  • Working harmoniously with the catering team to maintain a positive and professional environment
  • Adapting to school activities and tight timescales with flexibility and teamwork
Working Hours
  • Full-time (40 hours/week) – Term time (34 weeks) + 2 weeks including INSET days
  • Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break)
  • Some flexibility required in line with school needs
Salary & Benefits
  • £24,300 – £25,300 per annum (actual salary)
  • Full-time equivalent: £30,368 – £31,616 per annum
  • Generous benefits package, including excellent professional development opportunities
