Commercial Vehicle Maintenance Technician

  • Hourly Rate: £28.87 (Umbrella)
  • Location: Leeds, LS9
  • Job Type: Agency Contract (3 roles available)

Join the Fleet Services team at Leeds City Council, where you will be instrumental in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the corporate vehicle fleet. This role ensures compliance with statutory regulations and maintains the Council’s operator license. It offers a dynamic work environment with a focus on both planned and reactive maintenance across a diverse fleet of commercial, heavy goods, and specialist municipal vehicles.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Diagnose faults accurately on vehicles and specialist equipment.
  • Use and maintain specialist tools appropriately.
  • Complete repairs efficiently in line with Council policies and scheduled times.
  • Report defects and recommend preventative maintenance where appropriate.
  • Complete all required documentation and input data into relevant systems.
  • Work safely at all times, including on-site repairs when directed.
  • Service, repair, and maintain a full range of vehicles as required.
  • Operate GPS-enabled mobile workshop vehicles in accordance with management instructions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in servicing and repairing commercial vehicles.
  • Minimum of 3 years in an approved apprenticeship or recognised training scheme.
  • At least 2 years continuous experience in a commercial repair/service environment.
  • Strong manual dexterity and ability to work with precision.
  • Effective communication skills in both written and verbal technical language.
  • Numeracy skills for measurements and tool settings.
  • City & Guilds 4101 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualification.
