Job summary

Heatforce is recruiting a Commercial Solar Designer / Project Manager to design commercial rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems and to manage projects from design through to installation. You will produce layouts, schematics and energy yield calculations while coordinating with internal teams, installers, subcontractors and clients.

The role combines technical solar design with project delivery to ensure safe, compliant and commercially viable outcomes across the UK renewables portfolio.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years' experience designing commercial solar PV systems.
• Experience managing or coordinating commercial solar PV projects through to installation and completion.
• Strong knowledge of AC/DC design, string sizing, cable calculations, SLDs and energy yield modelling.
• Experience with DNO applications (essential).
• Good understanding of UK regulations, including BS 7671, G99/G100 and MCS requirements.
• Experience designing systems from approximately 50kW to multi-MW installations.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and solar design packages such as PV*SOL, HelioScope or PVSyst.

• Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

We are recruiting a Commercial Solar Designer / Project Manager with strong knowledge of large-scale commercial solar PV design and project delivery to support our growing renewables team.

This is a varied role combining technical solar PV design with project management and delivery. You will be responsible for producing high-quality commercial solar designs while also supporting projects through the installation cycle, coordinating with internal teams, installation teams, subcontractors, clients and other project stakeholders.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring commercial solar projects are technically compliant, commercially viable, well-coordinated and delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Design commercial rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems that are technically compliant, commercially viable and ready for installation.


• Prepare system layouts, electrical schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs) and performance calculations.


• Carry out AC/DC design, string sizing, cable calculations and energy yield modelling.


• Prepare and support DNO applications and ensure designs meet relevant G99/G100 requirements.


• Utilise specialist software to model, optimise and validate system designs.


• Provide technical design guidance and recommendations to installation teams and project stakeholders.


• Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards, regulations and installation best practices.


• Assist with design improvements and innovation across renewable energy projects.

Project Management & Delivery

• Manage and coordinate commercial solar projects from design through to installation and completion.


• Work closely with internal departments to gather the required technical and project information and ensure designs are accurate and deliverable.


• Coordinate with installation teams, subcontractors, suppliers, clients and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.


• Support project planning, scheduling and resource requirements to ensure projects remain on track.


• Monitor project progress and identify and resolve technical, operational or design issues that may affect delivery.


• Ensure required project documentation, drawings, specifications and technical information are available to support installation.


• Liaise with DNOs and other relevant stakeholders where required throughout the project.


• Support the procurement and specification of materials and equipment in line with project requirements.


• Attend site visits and project meetings where required.


• Support the installation and commissioning process, ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with approved designs and relevant standards.


• Monitor project quality, timescales and delivery requirements and provide regular updates to relevant stakeholders.


• Support the successful handover and completion of projects.

Key Requirements

• 2–5 years' experience designing commercial solar PV systems.


• Experience managing or coordinating commercial solar PV projects through to installation and completion.


• Strong knowledge of AC/DC design, string sizing, cable calculations, SLDs and energy yield modelling.


• Experience with DNO applications (essential).


• Good understanding of UK regulations, including BS 7671, G99/G100 and MCS requirements.


• Experience designing systems from approximately 50kW to multi-MW installations.


• Proficient in AutoCAD and at least one leading solar design package such as PV*SOL, HelioScope or PVSyst.


• Experience with SketchUp, Revit or GIS software would be advantageous.


• Strong project coordination and organisational skills.


• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.


• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.


• A practical, solutions-focused approach to project delivery.

Qualification Requirements

• Level 3 electrical qualification, ideally an NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Electrical Installation or equivalent.


• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).


• 18th Edition Amendment 2.
