Job summary

A leading projects firm in Chesterfield is seeking an experienced Power & Grid Commercial Manager to manage a team and oversee electrical services projects. You will support the commercial director by developing commercial processes and procedures, managing tenders, and ensuring successful client communications. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Quantity Surveying or Engineering and has experience in large engineering projects. A full clean driving license is also required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing large engineering projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical services in the built environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of contract law and standard forms of contract.

Job Overview

Job Overview This is the job description for a Power & Grid commercial manager within Advisory, Design and Build, to support the commercial aspects of delivery within our Projects business. Reporting to the commercial director, the commercial manager will assist in developing best in class commercial processes and procedures and support the commercial director in achieving the business operational and commercial objectives and interests.

Main Duties
  • Manage, coordinate and develop a team of quantity surveyors.
  • Represent respective BU in the Mitie Projects commercial SLT forum chaired by the Projects commercial director.
  • Assist with the implementation of 'Project Bedrock' (a Mitie strategic project) within respective BU.
  • Demonstrate a clear and effective alignment with the operational objectives and commercial interests.
  • Support the development of feasibility proposals by providing robust cost estimates and procurement strategy recommendations.
  • Apply a neat and accurate approach to measurement, both from drawings and site measures, to prepare take-offs for estimates and firm price offers.
  • Prepare tender documentation and manage the tender process.
  • Undertake cash flow forecast on projects of a complex programme.
  • Value interim and completed works and arrange payments.
  • Month end reporting and financial reconciliation of cost and value.
  • Support projects monitor income recovery and instigate action to ensure prompt payment of invoices, minimising WIP and debt.
  • Perform risk, value management and cost control.
  • Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks.
  • Provide ad hoc support and expertise on commercial matters as required.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims.
  • Establish and maintain good responsive communication with the customer and stakeholders.
  • Act as the key focal point for all project commercial issues with the client; achieving successful outcomes to commercial matters whilst engaging in a constructive and collaborative manner with the client to:
    • Support client initiatives and projects
    • Resolve contractual issues and disputes
    • Ensure a clear, mutual understanding of the contractual requirements is established
    • Ensure the timely provision of client commercial reports, including contract variations
Essential
  • Qualified to Degree Level in Quantity Surveying / Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience of managing and developing a commercial team.
  • Experience of managing large and/or complex Electrical / MEP / Engineering projects.
  • Relevant experience in a similar level role specifically focused on or electrical services projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of commonly used electrical services systems in the built environment.
  • Self-motivated with a flexible approach to work, and capable of working to deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of contract law and demonstrable knowledge of standard forms of contract (NEC, JCT, FIDIC or similar).
  • Excellent numerical and communication skills.
  • Good IT skills, including the ability to analyse, interpret & manipulate data.
  • A high level of commercial awareness including knowledge of current contract legislation.
  • Well organised, with a methodical approach to managing tasks to satisfactory completion with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Full Clean Driving Licence
