About the Role
We are seeking a Commercial Manager to join a project execution team, providing expert contract management, procurement, cost control, and administration support for complex automation projects in dynamic and evolving airport and parcel environments. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in transport, rail, or aviation sectors, with the ability to manage complex stakeholder requirements and successfully deliver large-scale projects. This is a role for a motivated, detail-oriented leader who thrives in challenging, fast-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure complex projects are cost- and change-controlled, minimizing commercial risk through accurate contract interpretation, management, and administration both upstream with customers and downstream with subcontractors.
- Manage project finances, including forecasts, cash flow, costs, billing plans, and applications for payment.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Customers, Subcontractors, and Internal Stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement in commercial management practices, share best practices, and develop the commercial capability of the team.
- Mentor and upskill the existing commercial team to strengthen overall effectiveness through implementation of strategies and targets aligned with leadership and project governance.
- Lead commercial success of projects by taking ownership and accountability for contract management and financial outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience on Airport, Transport, or Rail projects, ideally at Heathrow.
- Strong knowledge of various contract types, including NEC3, NEC4, MF/1.
- Commercial management experience on complex engineering projects with revenues exceeding GBP10m per annum.
- Ability to influence and motivate teams to meet programme dates.
- Expertise in managing change processes, including scope analysis, estimating, and compensation events.
- Solid understanding of project schedules and delay analysis.
- Supplier and subcontractor management experience, including pre- and post-contract relationship management.
- Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to prioritise in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong negotiation, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills.
- Membership of a professional body (RICS, CIOB, ACostE) preferred.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams and taking ownership for commercial project success.
