Job description
MOBILE COMMERCIAL GAS ENGINEER

LOCATION: West Midlands and surrounding areas. SALARY: £50,000 - £55,000 (£24.04 - £26.44 per hour). HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (40 hours per week). RECRUITMENT: Requires an enhanced DBS check and reference checks.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Service and maintenance of gas appliances in both commercial and domestic properties, including boiler fault‑finding and safety inspections.

MAIN DUTIES
  • Attend service and reactive breakdowns to fault find, diagnose and repair in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
  • Apply boiler fault‑finding expertise to provide high‑level first‑time fixes and excellent customer care.
  • Perform day‑to‑day responsive maintenance, service and repairs as instructed.
  • Conduct servicing and safety checks on all heating systems, ensuring compliance with current gas/oil safety regulations.
  • Attend to boiler or system breakdowns, inspecting and identifying works required to restore proper function.
  • Make immediate repair decisions when the original job order does not reflect actual requirements and inform the relevant director.
  • Communicate to tenants when repairs cannot be completed on the first visit, arranging return appointments and informing the director.
  • Ensure protection of all tenant furnishings during work.
  • Liaise with management or clients to confirm all works are completed.
  • Complete all works safely and in accordance with current codes and practices.
  • Adhere to client rules and regulations while on site.
  • Seek a best‑value, cost‑effective approach when purchasing materials.
  • Accurately complete all relevant documentation and return information to the office promptly.
  • When provided, use the company vehicle in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintain company property, including motor vehicle, uniform, tools and equipment.
  • Pre‑emptively identify additional works, provide quotes and pursue opportunities.
  • Follow the company’s policies, handbook and health & safety guidance.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Recognised gas apprenticeship and commercial gas certificates such as ACS – CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1, CDGA1, CIGA1, TPCP1, TPCP1A, COMCAT.
  • Experience in analysing, fault finding, servicing, repairing and maintaining gas/heating installations and appliances in the commercial sector.
  • Mobile – willingness to travel to multiple sites across the West Midlands and surrounding areas, with occasional wider travel if required.
  • Availability to work additional hours beyond contracted hours when required; overtime will be payable.
