Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Gas Engineer to join their technical team supporting a prestigious client portfolio across the Oxford region. Working predominantly across historic and diverse buildings in Oxford, this role offers a varied and rewarding workload, combining planned maintenance, reactive repair and combustion service work across multiple sites. The Commercial Gas Engineer will be responsible for carrying out inspection, service, maintenance and repair on a wide range of commercial gas boilers, heating plant, and associated systems. The position involves ensuring compliance with statutory standards, client specifications and BGIS safety procedures while maintaining high levels of service delivery and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Perform PPM, reactive and remedial works on commercial gas systems and HVAC plant.
- Respond to breakdowns and critical faults across multiple client sites, ensuring systems are made safe and restored to service promptly.
- Conduct gas testing and purging in accordance with IGE and British Standards.
- Maintain accurate records, logbooks and Gas Safe documentation.
- Collaborate with supervisors and service managers to ensure works are completed within time and budget parameters.
- Manage and supervise subcontractors, ensuring adherence to permits, safe systems of work and H&S policies.
- Diagnose and repair components such as pipework, valves, burners, pumps, fans, and control systems.
- Operate and monitor BMS and environmental systems, maintaining optimal building conditions.
- Contribute to energy efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support emergency response outside normal working hours when required.
Qualifications
- ACS Qualified Gas Engineer with current certification covering Core Safety, Indirect Fired Appliances and Commercial Pipework.
- Recognised City & Guilds or NVQ in Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent).
- Strong working knowledge of commercial gas and HVAC systems, including boilers, controls, and combustion.
- Skilled in reading technical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Proven experience in a critical or facilities management environment.
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
- Confident working independently or as part of a multi-skilled team.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
