Hours: 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm

Contract: Permanent

A permanent opportunity is available for a qualified Commercial Gas Engineer / HVAC Technician to maintain heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems across a multi-site retail contract in the Midlands.

The role combines commercial gas servicing with planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs and fault finding across a varied range of building services equipment.

The package includes a salary of £47,888.23 inclusive of standby payment, paid travel time, overtime and a £2,000 joining bonus, subject to terms and conditions.

THE ROLE

As a Commercial Gas Engineer / HVAC Technician, you'll carry out planned and reactive maintenance across a portfolio of retail sites, maintaining a range of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and associated building services equipment.

You'll be responsible for completing scheduled PPM, responding to reactive calls, diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs within agreed timescales.

Equipment includes:
  • Air handling units (AHUs), including gas-fired heating and LPHW systems
  • Commercial gas boilers and domestic hot water boilers
  • Low-pressure hot water (LPHW) heating systems and pumps
  • Direct expansion (DX) coils and split air conditioning systems
  • Heat pump systems and water chillers
  • Inverters and associated HVAC controls

You'll also identify faults that cannot be repaired economically, report your findings and recommend suitable replacement equipment where necessary. This is a multi-site position, so you'll need to be comfortable travelling between customer locations and maintaining good working relationships with site teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on commercial gas, HVAC and building services equipment.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance calls and diagnose faults across heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Complete servicing, repairs and maintenance in line with contractual requirements and agreed response times.

  • Carry out fault finding and identify the cause of equipment failures.
  • Complete job sheets, service reports and compliance documentation accurately.
  • Report non-repairable faults and recommend suitable replacement options.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant health, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Provide professional customer service when working on client sites.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Participate in the standby rota and respond to callouts as required.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED

You'll need a strong commercial gas background, recognised industry qualifications and experience maintaining HVAC equipment across commercial or multi-site environments.

Essential requirements include:

  • Relevant recognised commercial gas qualifications, with at least four applicable commercial gas certifications.
  • F-Gas qualification, such as City & Guilds 2079 or an equivalent recognised certificate.
  • Unvented hot water qualification, including G3.
  • Experience carrying out commercial gas servicing, HVAC maintenance and fault finding.
  • Experience working on multi-site contracts or across multiple commercial premises.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach to customer service.

The 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations would be beneficial but are not essential. You'll need to be comfortable working independently, managing your workload and responding to maintenance issues across a busy retail estate.
