Job summary

Sainsbury's is seeking a professionally qualified Finance Manager to lead the Technology P&L period-end, budgeting and reporting. You will partner with technology leadership and central finance to deliver data-driven insights and drive financial governance across strategic initiatives.

The role requires strong accounting expertise, commercial acumen and experience leading finance teams within large FMCG/retail or technology environments. Hybrid working and broad benefits are offered.

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA credential and experience applying technical accounting in a commercial finance environment.
• Proven ability to influence financial decision-making through analysis, insights and recommendations.
• Experience in a large FMCG/retail/tech organisation in a commercial finance or FP&A role.

Responsibilities

• Lead the period-end process for Technology P&L, ensuring accurate accounting and robust cost governance.
• Own the Corporate Plan, Budgeting and Latest View cycles with clear articulation of risks and financial drivers.
• Lead and develop the Technology Finance team and drive consistency in reporting and governance.
• Deliver insightful ad hoc analysis across Technology P&L cost lines in partnership with technology leadership.

What You'll Do

You will be accountable for leading the period end process for Technology P&L, ensuring accurate accounting treatment, robust cost governance, and timely management reporting. You will play a crucial role in the Corporate Plan, Budgeting, and Latest View cycles, providing clear articulation of risks, opportunities, and financial drivers across the P & L and the subsequent impacts from capital expenditure. Additionally, you will lead and develop the Technology Finance team, ensuring consistency in approach to tasks, setting the agenda, and prioritising key financial initiatives. Your role will involve delivering insightful ad hoc analysis across Technology P&L cost lines, partnering closely with technology leadership and central functions to support strategic and operational priorities, while continuously reviewing and enhancing reporting processes to drive efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.

Who You Are

You are a professionally qualified accountant with a proven track record of driving improved financial decision-making through high-quality analysis and insights. With your strong technical foundation and commercial acumen gained from working in large FMCG, Food, Retail, or Technology businesses, you excel in managing the period end process, budgeting cycles, and strategic financial reporting to senior stakeholders. Your ability to communicate effectively, interpret complex financial data, and lead a team of finance analysts showcases your structured approach to work, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering impactful financial outcomes.

Essential Criteria

• Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with demonstrable application of technical accounting knowledge in a commercial finance environment
• Proven experience partnering with stakeholders and influencing financial decision-making through the delivery of financial analysis, insight and recommendations
• Experience working in a large, complex FMCG, retail, food, technology or similarly scaled commercial organisation in a commercial finance or FP&A role
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, including financial modelling, data analysis and presenting complex financial information to senior stakeholders
• Demonstrable experience leading, developing and managing finance analysts or finance teams, while maintaining effective financial controls and governance standards
