Dynamite Recruitment is recruiting a Commercial Finance Manager for a growing engineering business in Woking on a permanent basis. The role focuses on improving project profitability, strengthening commercial controls and providing visibility of financial performance across the business.

The ideal candidate will have experience in project-based environments, strong commercial awareness and advanced Excel skills, with proficiency in Power BI for profitability analysis and reporting.

• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project profitability, margins, budgets and revenue recovery
• Excellent Excel skills and experience using Power BI or similar reporting tools
• Confident challenging Project Managers and senior stakeholders to drive commercial accountability
• Proactive approach to identifying risks, improving controls and maximising profitability
• Strong communication skills and ability to turn financial data into commercial insight
• Comfortable taking ownership, working independently and influencing decisions across the business

Responsibilities

• Reviewing project budgets, hours, WIP, recoverability and forecast margins ahead of monthly invoicing
• Working with Project Managers to challenge cost overruns, underbilling and declining profitability
• Identifying additional billing opportunities, scope changes and variation orders to improve revenue recovery
• Developing early-warning controls to identify commercial risks before budgets are exceeded
• Analyzing project and client profitability using Power BI and identifying improvement opportunities
• Producing monthly commercial reports for senior leadership
• Supporting pricing, estimating and commercial decisions through historical data
• Collaborating with Accounts to improve revenue visibility, WIP management and billing accuracy
• Identifying recurring causes of poor margins and implementing corrective actions
• Improving forecasting accuracy and project performance insight across the portfolio

This is a commercially focused role suited to an analytical finance professional with experience in project-based environments, looking to improve project profitability, strengthen commercial controls and provide greater visibility of financial performance across the business.

The Commercial Finance Manager Role:

• Reviewing project budgets, hours, WIP, recoverability and forecast margins ahead of monthly invoicing
• Working closely with Project Managers to challenge cost overruns, underbilling and declining profitability
• Identifying additional billing opportunities, scope changes and potential variation orders to improve revenue recovery
• Developing early-warning controls to identify commercial risks before budgets are exceeded
• Analysing project and client profitability using Power BI, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
• Producing clear, concise monthly commercial reports for the Managing Director
• Supporting pricing, estimating and commercial decisions through historical project data and performance analysis
• Working alongside the Accounts team to improve revenue visibility, WIP management and billing accuracy
• Identifying recurring causes of poor margins and working with Project Managers to implement corrective actions
• Improving forecasting accuracy and providing greater insight into project performance across the portfolio

The Ideal Commercial Finance Manager Candidate:
