Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbotts Diagnostics family of businesses bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.

Our Toxicology Business part of Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is currently recruiting for a Commercial Director due to an intenral promotion. The role would be based in our Abingdon (Oxfordshire) office with 25% travelling anticipated within the UK and occasional travel overseas.

This role is part of the Toxicology Senior Leadership Team and oversees a team of approximately 27 employees / contingent staff with 7 direct reports.

As the Commercial Director you will establish and achieve sales goals and objectives in specified markets and geographical territories in support of Abbott Toxicologys International Services overall strategic plan.

What Youll Do

The Commercial Director will be responsible for the development ownership and delivery of the Abbott Toxicology International UK and Ireland commercial strategy across a complex mix of public and private sector customers in seven industry verticals (Abbott Toxicology and Abbott Healthcare Connections). Abbott Toxicology International includes the Global Maritime business and the Global Aviation services business. A key priority of this role will be to lead and manage the commercial teams responsible for all areas of both existing and new business development and to lead on embedding Abbotts commercial excellence into the Toxicology Business. These teams include field sales force tender and bids business development market access implementation customer training key account management and strategic commercial excellence.

  • Lead and manage commercial teams to drive revenue growth and achieve sales targets.
  • Develop and coach sales teams to understand customer needs identify opportunities and negotiate effectively.
  • Oversee performance management to meet individual departmental and company goals.
  • Champion commercial excellence across Abbott Toxicology UK and I Team.
  • Align and transform commercial strategy with global objectives and financial targets.
  • Own and manage the commercial budget.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities globally especially in Maritime and Aviation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key national and international accounts.
  • Direct implementation of sales marketing training and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead contract negotiations pricing proposals and bid oversight.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support commercial goals.
  • Monitor market trends and advise on competitive strategies.
  • Provide regular sales forecasts and reports to senior management.
  • Participate in business reviews and support territory planning.
  • Maintain deep product and market knowledge.
  • Support Government Affairs strategy implementation.
  • Uphold company values and policies in all interactions and decisions.
Required qualifications / Profile
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline and / or previous experience working as a Commercial Director at a senior level and / or experience in another senior level role
  • Commercially astute articulate technically strong dynamic insightful and influential leader with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
  • Exceptional communication skills at all levels with confident presentation skills
  • Lead coach and develop high-performing teams
  • Manage contracts tenders and commercial agreements
  • Experience of contract negotiation and management of contracts and commercial agreements with customersand suppliers
  • Build strong client relationships and identify new business opportunities
  • Support a collaborative innovative and customer-focused culture
  • Communicate effectively across all levels and present with confidence
  • Bring expertise in dispute resolution performance management and mentoring
