Commercial Director - Environmental Services (Waste Processing)

Location: South Yorkshire, UK Wide – remote model, time at sites when required.

Are you a strategic commercial leader with deep expertise in environmental services and waste management? We're seeking an exceptional Commercial Director to shape and lead the commercial strategy of our growing waste processing and environmental services business. This is a pivotal senior leadership role, focused on driving major account growth, strengthening customer partnerships, and contributing directly to the company's long-term strategic direction.

About the Role

Reporting to the CEO, the Commercial Director will own and evolve our commercial vision developing new opportunities across public and private sector clients, embedding robust account governance, and driving sustainable growth across the UK market. You will play a key part in the executive team, helping to steer the company through an exciting phase of expansion and transformation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of the commercial strategy across all business lines, with a focus on growth, customer value, and profitability.
  • Build, maintain, and expand strategic partnerships with major clients and stakeholders in both the private and public sectors.
  • Ensure exceptional account governance, contract performance, and commercial compliance across key accounts.
  • Identify new business and partnership opportunities within recycling, waste processing, and resource recovery.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, finance, sustainability, and technical teams to align commercial priorities with operational excellence and environmental goals.
  • Represent the business at senior industry forums, tenders, and regulatory discussions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing commercial team.
About You
  • A seasoned commercial professional with significant experience in waste management, environmental services, or resource recovery.
  • Demonstrable success managing and expanding large-scale client relationships and contracts.
  • Strategic thinker with a data-driven approach to commercial decision-making and risk management.
  • Proven ability to contribute to executive-level strategy and transformation programmes.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong financial and contractual acumen, with a solid understanding of public sector frameworks, environmental regulation, and compliance.
Preferred qualifications
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Professional memberships such as CIWM (Chartered Institution of Wastes Management) or IEMA would be highly regarded.
