Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Commercial Assurance Specialist to join the Commercial Projects team. Hybrid working is offered, with a focus on governance, spend control and performance oversight across various projects.

You will challenge assumptions and drive continuous improvement in commercial performance, collaborating with Commercial Managers, Area Leads and Delivery Partners. The role requires experience in budget management, forecasting, and financial controls, plus strong stakeholder

Qualifications

• Experience in managing budgets, forecasting and financial controls across a project portfolio.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and provide insights.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain financial governance processes across the Commercial Projects portfolio.
• Ensure projects comply with financial governance, delegated authority and internal controls.
• Provide independent assurance that expenditure stays within budgets and governance thresholds.
• Introduce and maintain commercial controls to minimise financial risk and overspend.
• Monitor expenditure against budgets, regulatory allowances and targets.
• Produce spend forecasts in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Identify financial risks and advise on corrective actions.
• Develop reporting and management information to support decisions.
• Monitor contractor financial performance against contracts.
• Support commercial reviews and audits to ensure governance compliance.
• Collaborate with Area Leads to balance delivery with commercial performance.
• Challenge assumptions where outcomes may affect objectives.
• Develop new assurance processes for the portfolio.
