Job summary

A healthcare organization is seeking a colorectal support nurse to join their colorectal team. The successful candidate will triage patients referred from GPs, engage in sensitive conversations, and support the colorectal MDT. Required qualifications include Registered General Nurse and mentorship. This part-time position offers a salary ranging from £38,682 to £46,580 per annum, pro rata.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our colorectal team as a colorectal support nurse. The role of the support nurse is to support all areas of the team, including Straight to test (STT), Colorectal cancer care and stoma care. This post will predominantly be working with the STT team and will involve triaging patient's who have been referred on the STT rapid access pathway from their GP.

You will be part of a nurse led pathway to assess patients and where ever possible send them straight to an investigation that is appropriate for them. You will need to be confident at communicating with patient's both face to face and over the telephone.

You will be required to work autonomously and be confident in following nurse led protocols using your own knowledge and experience to interpret information, assess patient's and plan care appropriately.

Main duties of the job

Triaging patients over the telephone who have been referred from the GP.

Interpret results and request investigations accordingly.

Liaise with consultants, registrars, endoscopy, radiology and other teams to ensure patients are triaged quickly and efficiently.

Often engaging in difficult and sensitive conversations with patients.

Discussing and assessing patients who may have been referred from an alternative source, such as other teams within the hospital or A&E department.

Supporting in clinic with the assessment of patients.
