In partnership with Police, Insurers and Government we aim to make it a thing of the past, and until then we compensate victims quickly, fairly and compassionately. Last year we helped more than 34,000 people struck by uninsured and hit‑and‑run drivers and paid over £400 million in compensation.

About the role

In this pivotal role, you will provide strategic support on employee‑relations matters, guiding managers and resolving issues constructively. You will champion our dispute‑resolution framework, coach leaders, and help shape inclusive practices that foster a positive culture.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide first‑line advice and guidance to managers and employees on ER matters, including disciplinary, grievance, performance and absence management, and lead standard cases through to resolution.
  • Support the Senior ER Specialist in managing complex cases and investigations, contributing to strategy and resolution planning.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of ER policies, procedures and toolkits, ensuring alignment with best practice and organisational values.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of ER cases and outcomes, and use data effectively to inform decision‑making.
  • Monitor ER case trends, analyse data, and elevate recurring issues or risks with recommendations for proactive interventions.
  • Design and deliver ER‑related training and capability‑building sessions for line managers, supporting a shift toward confident, values‑led resolution practices.
  • Apply and embed the organisation’s dispute‑resolution framework to support fair, timely and constructive resolution of workplace issues, escalating complex cases as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners and other stakeholders to ensure ER practices are aligned with broader HR and cultural transformation strategies.
  • Stay informed of changes in employment legislation and ER best practice, contributing to internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence, coach and negotiate confidently across all levels of the organisation.
  • CIPD qualification (Level 5) or equivalent experience in a senior HR or ER advisory capacity.
  • Experience managing a range of employee relations from initiation to resolution, ensuring compliance with employment law and organisational policies.
  • High level of computer literacy (MS Office) and experience using HRIS and case‑management systems for documentation and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high‑quality, accurate work.
  • Takes ownership of actions, deliverables and outcomes, with a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
  • Works independently with confidence, showing initiative and sound judgement in complex situations.
  • Builds strong relationships and demonstrates empathy, inclusion and cultural awareness.
  • Analyses ER data and case trends to identify risks, inform decisions and support continuous improvement.
