Job description
POSITION: Engineering Workshop Manager

LOCATION: Bradford

HOURS: Monday - Thursday 07.00 to 16.00 Friday 07.00 to 15.00

SALARY: £45k - £50k per annum dependant on experience

HOLIDAYS: 5 weeks annual leave plus statutory public holidays

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Workshop management: Coordinating daily operations, ensuring efficient workflows and managing scheduling.
  • Monitor and control the progress of jobs, working closely with our engineers, suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure jobs are delivered within estimated/allocated times.
  • Plan works, liaising with the production office team regarding purchasing requirements, completing purchase requisitions for job specific purchasing.
  • Maintain oversight of workshop related expenditure, stock takes and stock requirements.
  • Provide technical support to a team of multi-skilled engineers and operatives.
  • Liaise with the sales team to aid them when producing quotations, as well as providing regular updates regarding job delivery for effective management of customer expectations.
Quality and efficiency
  • Develop and implement standards for quality, safety and efficiency.
  • Conduct pre, mid and post inspection of all jobs including inspection of sub-contracted processes.
  • Monitor the condition of machinery, equipment and tooling to ensure maintenance is conducted and safety is maintained.
Client and supplier liaison
  • Liaise with clients, manage suppliers and sub-contractors.
Safety and compliance
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and protocols, conducting risk assessments and maintaining equipment safety.
  • Maintain high levels of workshop cleanliness.
Production meetings
  • Take an active role in weekly production meetings providing updates regarding job progress, highlighting any production delivery issues/challenges.
Personnel management
  • Manage the performance of the team and conduct appraisals.
  • Involved with recruitment of engineers.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Experienced Workshop Manager within a similar mechanical engineering environment, minimum 5 years in a Workshop Manager role.
  • Time-served engineer.
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of manual machining and repair work.
  • Effective decision-making skills to adapt to urgent job requirements from customers, address issues and improve operations.
  • Proven experience managing, leading and motivating a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Strong computer skills and comfortable learning new systems.
