CNC Machinist - CNC Turner

Salary: £17.69 per hour
Shift Pattern: 38 hours per week, flexitime (Mon‑Thurs: 7am‑8:30am start, Fri: finish by 1pm if starting at 7am)

Orion are currently working with an innovative manufacturing company based near Weston‑on‑Trent, who are looking for an experienced CNC Turner to join their team. If you have strong experience in CNC machining, programming, and metal fabrication, then we want to hear from you!

CNC Turner Duties:
  • Create CNC programs and set up CNC turn mill machines and XYZ manual lathes.
  • Interpret technical drawings and CAD models.
  • Select tools, speeds, feeds, and cutting paths.
  • Simulate programs to identify and resolve issues before production.
  • Perform first‑part inspections and in‑process quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Carry out basic machine maintenance and troubleshoot machining issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and maintain a clean, organised work area.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve issues and meet production schedules.
CNC Turner Required Experience:
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, GD&T, and CAD models.
  • Skilled in Siemens machine controls and CAM software (Fusion).
  • Experience with manual XYZ lathe.
  • Knowledge of machining different materials (aluminium, stainless steel, plastics).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues.
  • Time‑served Apprenticeship in Engineering or HNC/HND equivalent.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a strong eye for detail.
