Job summary

WF Tech, recruiting for a precision engineering client in Welwyn Garden City, seeks an experienced CNC Sliding Head Setter/Operator. You will set, operate and optimise Citizen M32/L32 lathes to produce high‑quality, tight‑tol­erance components across prototype to production work.

Key duties include programming edits on Mitsubishi/Fanuc controls, tool life management and continuous improvement to cycle times and surface finishes. A strong background in tooling, GD&T and bar feeders is required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a CNC Sliding Head Setter/Operator.
• Experience setting and operating Citizen Sliding Head lathes, ideally M32 and L32.
• Confident editing programs and offsets with Mitsubishi or Fanuc controls.
• Excellent tooling knowledge for drilling, threading, grooving and parting.
• Experience with bar feeders and high‑pressure coolant systems.
• Ability to produce components to tight tolerances and high surface finish.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate Citizen M32 and L32 Sliding Head CNC lathes.
• Set tooling, guide bushes, collets, offsets and bar feeder parameters.
• Edit and optimise CNC programs using Mitsubishi/Fanuc controls.
• Prove out new jobs and optimise cycle times and surface finishes.
• Produce first-off components and perform in-process inspection.
• Read engineering drawings and GD&T to tight tolerances (±0.01mm).
• Monitor tool life and carry out tooling changes as required.
• Diagnose machining issues and support continuous improvement.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately.

Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
