CNC Machinist

Salary: £13.96 per hour. Shift Pattern: 38 hours per week, flexitime (Mon‑Thurs: 7am‑8:30am start, Fri: finish by 1pm if starting at 7am).

Orion is partnering with an innovative manufacturing company based near Weston‑on‑Trent. We are looking for an experienced CNC Router Programmer & Operator to join our team. If you have strong experience in CNC programming and operating router machines, then we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities
  • Programme, operate router CNC machinery, create CNC programmes and set up CNC router machines.
  • Interpret technical drawings and CAD models.
  • Select tools, speeds, feeds, and cutting paths.
  • Simulate programmes to identify and resolve issues before production.
  • Perform first‑part inspections and in‑process quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Carry out basic machine maintenance and troubleshoot machining issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and maintain a clean, organised work area.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve issues and meet production schedules.
Required Experience
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, GD&T, and CAD models.
  • Experience using machine controls and CAM software.
  • Knowledge of machining different materials (aluminium, stainless steel, plastics).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues.
  • Time‑served Apprenticeship in Engineering or HNC/HND equivalent.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a strong eye for detail.
