Company Background

My client is an ISO 9001:2015 certified SME subcontract engineering company based in Merseyside. Established in 1931 to support the local automotive, dock, and shipping industries, the company has grown to become a trusted supplier to leading firms in the nuclear, defence, oil and gas, fluid, and power generation sectors.

They specialise in the manufacture and supply of drive train components, precision valve and pump internal components, with expertise in precision shafts up to 4 metres in length.

The Role

Due to continued growth, there is an opportunity for an experienced CNC Miller to join the VMC and HMC CNC Milling Cell as a Programmer / Setter / Operator.

This is a subcontract machine shop environment, manufacturing one-offs and small batches. Employees are encouraged to use their skills to the fullest.

Key responsibilities include
  • Working from precision drawings to create programmes
  • Selecting tooling and carrying out prove-out and finish machining
  • Machining components from a variety of materials including steels, stainless steels, alloys, brass, bronzes, and non-ferritic materials
  • Using the latest vertical and horizontal machining centres equipped with 4th axis and Renishaw probing
  • Programming offline using OneCNC XR8 3D milling software or on-machine via Manual Guide or ISO input
Essential Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Proficient in programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes with Fanuc controls
  • Ability to read and work from detailed engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Systems
  • Experience machining exotic metals (e.g. super duplex, duplex, 718, X750, Hastelloy, Monel)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Effective communication with peers and management
  • Good attention to detail
Desirable Experience
  • Doosan vertical machining centres (750–2200 mm beds)
  • Kafo H630 twin pallet horizontal machining centre (Fanuc control)
  • Manual Guide programming
  • OneCNC programming software
  • 4th axis programming and machining
  • Production of valve and pump components
  • Experience in the nuclear, defence, oil and gas, fluid, or power generation sectors
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and ERP systems

Salary

£17.26 – £18.45 per hour (OTE £45,000 – £48,000 with overtime)

Hours

39 hours per week + overtime (subject to availability)

Single Days – Monday to Thursday 7:30am–4:30pm, Friday 7:30am–12:30pm
