CNC Machinist
Responsibilities
- Programming, setting, and operating 3- and 5-axis CNC and manual machines.
- Machining of Composite and Metallic structures and components for spacecraft systems and sub-systems.
- Working within the Composites Manufacturing team and liaising closely with the Design Office to deliver high quality components to tight deadlines for flight assembly and integration.
- Manufacturing of high-precision Composite (Carbon and Metallic) components using 3- and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
- CNC off-line programming using Autodesk PowerMill and FeatureCAM CAD/CAM software tools.
- Liaise with Project Engineers and other Engineering Teams to ensure deadlines and specifications are achieved.
- Attend engineering Peer Reviews to ensure design for manufacture methodology is observed.
- Attend regular team meetings.
- Occasional manual machining operations may be required.
- Other activities as delegated by Manufacturing Team Leader.
Qualifications
- City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering or having undertaken a recognised Apprenticeship with relevant certificates.
- Good educational background.
Experience
- Ideally from a machining or similar background.
- Experience of machining components in a High Precision, High Value, and Low Volume environment, ideally Aerospace.
- CNC Off-Line Programming using Solid Works, Autodesk Power Mill and Feature CAM CAD/CAM software tools preferred, but not essential, as training will be provided.
Knowledge & Skills
- Flexible and enthusiastic with a can-do approach.
- Problem solver.
- Capable of working from Engineering Drawings and Solid Works models to High Standards and Close Tolerances, attention to detail is essential.
- Good communication skills working within a small team.
