Job summary

A leading aerospace manufacturer is seeking a CNC Machinist in Guildford. This role involves programming, setting, and operating CNC machines to manufacture high-precision components for spacecraft. The ideal candidate will have a mechanical engineering background, experience in a high value, low volume machining environment, and a strong attention to detail. Training will be provided for CNC programming tools. This position offers a hybrid work environment.

Overview

Composite Manufacturing · Guildford · Hybrid

CNC Machinist
Responsibilities
  • Programming, setting, and operating 3- and 5-axis CNC and manual machines.
  • Machining of Composite and Metallic structures and components for spacecraft systems and sub-systems.
  • Working within the Composites Manufacturing team and liaising closely with the Design Office to deliver high quality components to tight deadlines for flight assembly and integration.
  • Manufacturing of high-precision Composite (Carbon and Metallic) components using 3- and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
  • CNC off-line programming using Autodesk PowerMill and FeatureCAM CAD/CAM software tools.
  • Liaise with Project Engineers and other Engineering Teams to ensure deadlines and specifications are achieved.
  • Attend engineering Peer Reviews to ensure design for manufacture methodology is observed.
  • Attend regular team meetings.
  • Occasional manual machining operations may be required.
  • Other activities as delegated by Manufacturing Team Leader.
Qualifications
  • City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering or having undertaken a recognised Apprenticeship with relevant certificates.
  • Good educational background.
Experience
  • Ideally from a machining or similar background.
  • Experience of machining components in a High Precision, High Value, and Low Volume environment, ideally Aerospace.
  • CNC Off-Line Programming using Solid Works, Autodesk Power Mill and Feature CAM CAD/CAM software tools preferred, but not essential, as training will be provided.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Flexible and enthusiastic with a can-do approach.
  • Problem solver.
  • Capable of working from Engineering Drawings and Solid Works models to High Standards and Close Tolerances, attention to detail is essential.
  • Good communication skills working within a small team.
