Job summary

Granite State Manufacturing seeks skilled CNC Machinists to set up and operate CNC and manual machining centers, delivering high-precision components with tight tolerances for metal and nonmetal parts.

You will study blueprints, select fixtures and tooling, program or edit CNC controls, monitor runs, and collaborate with engineering to resolve issues. Mentoring teammates, upholding safety and ethics, and complying with export-control requirements are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience reading blueprints and specifications for part features.
• Ability to set up fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories for CNC/machining operations.
• Capable of interpreting engineering drawings and tolerances with attention to detail.
• Troubleshooting machining issues with engineering to maintain quality.

Responsibilities

• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece to guide machining processes.
• Selects, aligns, and secures fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials for CNC and manual machining operations.
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut, or inputs and edits CNC machine programs as required.
• Starts and monitors machine operations to identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and adjusts controls as needed.
• Collaborates with engineering to troubleshoot machining issues and implement effective solutions.
• Mentors and supports employees in machine setup and operation as needed.
• Exhibits a strong sense of responsibility and accountability in maintaining a professional, safe, and clean work environment.
• Works collaboratively with team members and leadership to meet production and quality goals.
• Abides by GSM Code of Ethics and Business Conduct standards and strictly observe laws and regulations.

Job description

Sets up and operates Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, manual machines, and machining centers to produce high-precision metallic and nonmetallic components. This role supports precision machining, tight-tolerance production, and complex part manufacturing.

Candidates will be evaluated and aligned to the appropriate machine type and class level based on experience.

• Vertical Milling Machinist
• Horizontal Boring Mill Machinist
• Horizontal Milling Machinist
• Vertical Turning Lathe Machinist
• 5-Axis CNC Machining
• All-Around / General Machinist

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Capable of setup and running of CNC or manual machines, both horizontal and vertical.
• Self-sufficient in all areas of machining and production.
• Able to machine complex parts.
• Able to use height gages, calipers, micrometers, gage pins, thread gages, and optical comparators.
• Has troubleshooting skills.
• Demonstrated expertise in interpreting blueprints and specifications.
• Observes and evaluates machine performance to identify cutting inefficiencies or malfunctions.
• Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry preferred.
• Expertise in work holding devices. Design and build as needed, including cause and effects.
• Expertise in deburring and finishing techniques.
• Expert knowledge of tapping, threading, and thread forms.
• Experienced knowledge of materials, including cutting speed and feeds.
• Able to plan and execute the sequence of events from start to finish to produce a part.
