Job description

Do you hold a time served Mechanical Apprenticeship? Do you consider yourself to be Health and Safety conscious and an asset to a busy team? Are you based in or around Corby?

We have a permanent Machinist role available within TATA Steels Corby works. The Engineering Shop provides services and support for TATA's manufacturing operations. This includes general maintenance machining, roll re-profiling and preparation of test piece samples. This is primarily working with materials such as steel, alloys, tool steel and brass.

Shift Patterns

Mon-Fri, 40 hours per week on a 15 shift pattern (days, backs and nights on a weekly rotation)

Start

ASAP but pending the successful result of a medical assessment. (This does include a drug and alcohol test)

Responsibilities
  • Carry out machining work on a range of machines, including but not limited to; CNC lathes/mills, specialist roll stand lathes, manual centre lathes, milling machines, boring mills, planers, slotters, grinders, drills and saws.
  • Manufacture items to a high standard from existing drawings, within the expected delivery period.
  • Collection/delivery of test piece samples and stands around the site.
  • Support with Apprentice training.
  • Adhering to the works procedures and PPE instructions at all times.
  • Take an active role in continued improvement, maintaining and improving safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Undertake safe operation of equipment and machines within the Engineering Shop, including basic maintenance.
  • Working within COSHH regulations.
  • Adhering to UK Health and Safety legislation at all times.
Essential requirements
  • Time served Mechanical Apprenticeship
  • NVQ level 3 qualification (or above) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience within the manual operation of lathes, boring, grinding and milling machinery
  • Previous experience working within a safe system of work
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings
  • Able to complete manual tasks up to 25kg in weight
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation
Desirable requirements
  • Driving licence and use of a car
  • Experience operating CNC machines (Fanuc, Philips, Heidenhain, Siemens, Prototrak)
  • Previous experience operating forklift/telehandler up to 8 tonne (training provided if no experience)
