Job description

Granite State Manufacturing (GSM) is seeking motivated Class C CNC Lathe Operators to join our precision machining team on first shift.

This position is ideal for entry-level or early-career machinists who are ready to learn and grow in a fast-paced, high-precision manufacturing environment supporting the U.S. Navy submarine program and other critical defense initiatives.

About the Opportunity

As a Class C CNC Lathe Operator, you’ll work under the guidance of senior machinists and supervisors to support the setup, operation, and inspection of CNC turning equipment.

GSM operates a wide range of advanced machinery including Doosan VTLs, Mori SL and CL2000 series lathes, Okuma LB4000 EX II, ProtoTRAK, and DMG Mori platforms.

You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing to the production of components vital to national defense programs. Your work will directly support machining operations in accordance with the production schedule (IAW schedule).

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with machine setups, tooling, and material preparation.
  • Operate CNC lathes and turning centers under supervision.
  • Load/unload parts and perform in-process inspections with basic measurement tools.
  • Follow routers, setup sheets, and work instructions accurately.
  • Maintain part cleanliness, proper documentation, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Learn to read blueprints and understand GD&T fundamentals.
  • Support 5S initiatives and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Work collaboratively with teammates to ensure jobs are completed IAW production schedule.
Qualifications
  • 0–2 years of CNC machining or manufacturing experience (training provided).
  • Basic understanding of machine operation, tools, and measurement devices.
  • Willingness to learn setup procedures, inspection methods, and machining processes.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Desire to grow into a Class B or A machinist role within GSM.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous learning.
