Cloud Migration Architect (Contract)

Location: Hybrid (UK-based) | Duration: 6-12 months | Industry: Insurance

Overview

We're seeking a Cloud Migration Architect to lead the final phase of a large-scale transition from on-premises VMware infrastructure to Microsoft Azure. This role requires a technically strong, delivery-focused individual who can guide partners and internal teams through the design, migration, and optimisation of a secure and scalable cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the final stage of migration from on-prem VMware to Azure AVS and cloud-native services.
• Own cloud design strategy and architecture decisions.
• Collaborate with internal teams, Microsoft, and delivery partners to ensure smooth execution.
• Oversee optimisation, compliance, testing, and documentation activities.
• Partner with security and operations teams to maintain a secure-by-design Azure environment.
• Drive cost optimisation, governance, and performance improvements.
• Direct Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code (IaC) migrations.
• Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and best practices.

Skills & Experience

• Deep hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure, AVS, Cloud Migration, and Cloud Security.
• Strong background in Terraform, Azure DevOps, and automation.
• Proven track record delivering complex enterprise cloud programmes.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• 10+ years' experience in technology design and delivery, including 5+ in cloud architecture.
• Relevant certifications or degree in Computer Science / Information Systems (preferred).
