Opportunity

We are assisting a major UK Government Agency in their search for an experienced Cloud Geospatial Solution Architect to design, evaluate and deliver secure, scalable and compliant cloud infrastructure supporting geospatial and land data platforms, prototypes and common basemap initiatives.

This is a key role within a high-impact digital transformation programme shaping the future of cloud-based geospatial services across the public sector.

This role suits a technically strong, delivery-focused architect with deep geospatial expertise and public sector experience, ready to shape the UK's future digital mapping capability.

Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience architecting Azure (preferred) or AWS cloud solutions for geospatial or data-intensive workloads.
  • Expertise in ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, GeoServer or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong understanding of spatial databases such as PostGIS or SQL Server Spatial.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate, extend and enhance existing geospatial systems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across technical and operational domains.
Role and Responsibilities
  • Assess existing geospatial platforms and determine whether they can meet evolving technical and performance requirements through enhancement or integration.
  • Design and propose new cloud-native solutions (Azure or AWS) for scalability, resilience and performance.
  • Collaborate with data architects, developers and operations teams to align designs with strategic direction and agreed technology stacks.
  • Conduct technical and cost assessments to guide “reuse vs build” decisions.
  • Architect and document complete cloud solutions, including data storage, APIs and geospatial web services.
  • Ensure system interoperability using standard APIs (including OGC), authentication models and integration with external systems.
  • Implement secure infrastructure for spatial data ingestion, transformation and distribution.
  • Maintain full compliance with organisational, GDS, and GDPR security and data protection standards.

NB: Candidates must be eligible for BPSS security clearance which will be processed following successful interviews (2 weeks on-boarding time maximum).
