Job description

As a member of the multi-disciplinary Gait Analysis Team, the post holder will contribute to the collection and processing of data generated from the 3D motion analysis system. They will carry out regular calibration and quality assurance of equipment and support the Clinical Scientists with maintenance and technical development of both hardware and software systems, including maintenance of the Gait Laboratory computers.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and calibrate the specialist motion capture equipment of the Gait Laboratory.
  • Collect and process gait and movement data collected from patients. Incorporate processed data into clinical reports. Verify patient data collected and processed by others.
  • Carry out routine quality assurance testing and regular maintenance of existing equipment.
  • Install, test and maintain new motion analysis software and updates.
  • Assist and train new users of the Gait Laboratory to use the specialist motion capture equipment and software.
  • Assist and train Gait Laboratory staff with IT related issues.
  • Support Clinical Scientists in the maintenance of the Gait Laboratory IT systems and integration with the OUH domain including Trust software updates.
  • Carry out routine data archiving for the Gait Laboratory.
  • Assist with audit and research associated with the Gait Laboratory as required.
  • Contribute to selection, purchase and the installation of new IT and motion capture equipment.
  • Contribute to development of clinical services and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring all IT systems in the Gait Laboratory are working effectively, are updated and in line with compatible systems and OUH policy.
  • Responsible for liaising with the OUH IM&T department as required.
  • Personally responsible for prevention of risk to self and patients by maintaining safe working practices, and to maintain patient confidentiality. Also responsible for planning own weekly workload and ensuring quality of work is checked by others.
  • Responsible for providing expert advice, highly complex information and expertise in IT related issues to do with motion capture for the clinical assessment of children and adults with movement disabilities.
  • Fulfillment of the job responsibilities requires manual dexterity to collect and process data, along with proficient computer skills. Prolonged periods of concentration while collecting and processing data will be required in order to produce precise and accurate reports.
Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent in Science or engineering.
  • Relevant technical work experience including computers and measurement equipment.
  • Ability to work as part of multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to communicate technical information in writing and orally in a clear and logical manner.
  • Willingness to undertake further training.
  • Ability to work independently but seek advice when necessary.
  • Ability to follow standard procedures and local protocols.
  • Observant with good attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible.
  • Able to work with a range of electronic equipment safely.
  • Proficient computer/IT skills and experience with a range of software packages.
Desirable Criteria
  • Relevant post-graduate training.
  • Membership of the Register of Clinical Technologists.
  • Experience in working with medical devices.
  • Work in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to set up computers.
