Job description

The Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) is a pivotal, county-wide service whose main focus is to offer an alternative to inpatient admission and provide intensive treatment as required within the community. The service operates within locality-based leadership teams to ensure effective gatekeeping for all service users referred for hospital admission. Outreach is at the heart of the service, with most assessments taking place in non-hospital environments.

We are currently recruiting a Clinical Team Manager for Torbay CRHTT based at Torbay Hospital.

As an active member of the integrated multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to a 24-hour community-based Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Service, available across the county as an alternative to hospital admission. The role involves delivering rapid assessments and planning effective, evidence-based home treatment in collaboration with service users, carers, and professionals from both established services and locality teams.

Main duties of the job

The CRHTT Manager provides strategic and operational leadership to the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered mental health crisis care. The role focuses on managing urgent interventions, coordinating home-based treatment, and reducing hospital admissions by offering intensive support in the community.

The post holder will beresponsible for the effective operational management including line management of staff, financial and performance management. Theywill use effective leadership, change management and team building skills tomonitor, evaluate and develop the service provided.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Professional qualification in mental health nursing, social work, occupational therapy, or equivalent.
  • Current registration with the relevant professional body (e.g., NMC, HCPC).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and training in leadership or crisis care.
  • Postgraduate qualification in leadership, management, or advanced mental health practice.
  • Training in project management, service redesign, or quality improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Additional certifications in psychological therapies, crisis intervention, or trauma-informed care.
Knowledge
  • An excellent understanding of the NSF and Mental Health Act/ Mental Health Capacity Act requirements.
  • In-depth understanding of mental health legislation, safeguarding, and risk management.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention models and evidence-based approaches to home treatment.
  • Familiarity with NHS policies, clinical governance frameworks, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.
  • Awareness of local and national mental health strategies and priorities.
  • Understanding of national mental health policy drivers, including NHS Long Term Plan priorities.
  • Awareness of innovative approaches to crisis care and alternatives to admission
Experience
  • Significant post-qualification experience working in mental health services, including crisis care or acute settings.
  • Proven track record of managing or supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in service delivery within community-based or home treatment models.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex caseloads and make safe, timely decisions under pressure.
  • Substantial experience of working at a senior clinical level.
  • Providing managerial supervision and managing staff including HR processes.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget planning and cost-efficiency strategies.
  • Previous experience in a senior leadership role within crisis or acute mental health services.
  • Experience in service transformation, pathway redesign, or implementing new models of care.
  • Involvement in research, audit, or publication related to crisis resolution or home treatment.
  • Experience working across multiple agencies (health, social care, voluntary sector) to deliver integrated services.
