Anexciting opportunity has arisen for ten Band 2 Clinical Support Workers to joinour dedicated nursing team on Beckett Wing Wards part of the Speciality andIntegrated Medicine Clinical Service Unit (SIM).

Becketwing wards has maximum of 30-beds medical base ward, specialising in generalmedicine and elderly care. We provide care for adults aged 65 and above, Due tothe wide range of complex care needs we support, we are seeking highlymotivated and dynamic individuals who are committed to deliveringperson-centred care while upholding the highest standards of safety, dignity,and compassion.

Weare looking for enthusiastic and caring Clinical Support Workers with a genuinepassion for working with medical patients. The ideal candidates willconsistently strive to deliver high-quality, safe care, demonstrate strongcommunication and teamwork skills, show a willingness to learn, and take aproactive approach to supporting both patients and colleagues.

Patientexperience and safety underpin all aspects of this role. Successful applicantswill be expected to contribute positively to our team culture and theday-to-day running of the ward.

Main duties of the job

Thejobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirectcompassionate care for patients in support of and supervised by a registeredpractitioner.

Thejobholder will assist in the overall implementation of care as part of themulti professional team. The jobholder is expected to deliver and maintain highstandards of acute and planned care. The jobholder will be skilled in takingappropriate action(s) to achieve the planned outcome.

Thejobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care.

Thejobholder will be expected to practice in accordance with Leeds TeachingHospital NHS Trust (LTHT) policies, guidelines, standards and statutoryrequirements and operate within defined competency boundaries.

The jobholder will work within a ward or clinicaldepartment.

Job responsibilities

Communicationand Working Relationships

Establish and maintain effectivecommunication with patients, families and carers

Develop and maintain appropriaterelationships, communication and teamwork with members of themulti-disciplinary team within the ward and or department

Assist in the welcome and receptionof patients into the clinical area

Demonstrate a variety ofcommunication skills with patients who may have communication needs anddifficulties e.g., confusion, dementia or other linguistic issues

Communicate effectively with allhealth, social care providers, voluntary sectors and emergency services

Maintain clear, concise and legibledocumentation adhering to standards in accordance with trust policies andguidance

Ensure compliance with Trustpolicies and procedures regarding confidentiality of data and data security

Communicate with colleagues andmembers of the multi-disciplinary team clearly and effectively in written,verbal and electronic format (this may include accessing and updating patientrecords on central databases or electronic systems).

Occasionally participates in andcontribute to local audits (e.g., hand hygiene audit)

Escalate concerns with regards topatients physical or psychological needs, or changes in their clinicalcondition to a registered practitioner within appropriate time frames

Effective use of communicationskills when responding to patients, relatives or carers concerns andcomplaints, contributing to the ward, unit or department team action plan toachieve local resolution.

Ensures, in liaison with registeredpractitioners that interpreters are utilised as appropriate to supportpatients understanding and communication needs.

Ability to answer phone,effectively managing the enquiry.

Clinicalactivities to be undertaken under the direction and supervision of aregistered practitioner

Provide and deliver a high standardof compassionate personal care recognising and meeting the specific needs ofthe patients

Following training and assessment,competently undertake agreed clinical tasks relevant to the post and clinicalarea

Acknowledge any limitations ofcompetence in accepting care activities outside agreed limitations and informa registered practitioner

Assist in planning, implementationand evaluation of individual programmes of care for patients

Document interventions performedand care delivered, ensuring that the record is countersigned by a registeredpractitioner where appropriate.

Assist in the recording of fluidbalance, reporting discrepancies to a registered practitioner.

Assist the patient with all aspectsof their personal hygiene.

Assist in the safe moving andhandling of all patients utilising appropriate equipment.

Assist the patient with theirelimination needs; including bowel and urinary catheter care.

Provide care for patients withreduced mobility; to include skin integrity, pressure area care andmeasurement and application of anti-embolic stockings

Assist in ensuring patientsnutritional needs are met.

Carry out clinical observations onpatients, recording and reporting abnormalities and changes in patientscondition to the registered practitioner

Utilise early warning scoreindicators (e.g. NEWS) to recognise any patient deterioration and or suddenchange in condition, reporting immediately to a registered practitioner.

Collect equipment for clinicalprocedures as directed by the registered practitioner. Safely dispose ofequipment, post procedure, restocking where appropriate

Assist in safe and appropriate useand maintenance of equipment

Assist in the correct handling anddispatch of specimens

Safe disposal of soiled linen andclinical waste from the ward or department

Participate in the process ofinvolving relatives and or carers in the provision of patient care

Contribute to the psychological andspiritual needs of patients using diversionary and comfort measures asappropriate

Acts as a chaperone as perchaperone policy.

Assist in the performing of lastoffices for deceased patients.

Undertake the escort of patients toother departments and ward as instructed by a registered practitioner

Organise and prioritise timeeffectively

Undertake duties on differentwards, departments or clinical areas asand when required by service demands

Act in such a way that safeguardsthe health and wellbeing of children & vulnerable adults at all times. Isfamiliar with and adheres to, the LTHT safeguarding policies.

Other Responsibilities

Participate in the use of the LeedsImprovement Method to improve the quality and safety of the service.

Contribute to the prevention andcontrol of infection in line with Trustguidelines

Assist in maintenance of accuraterecords and documentation, with regard to legal requirements, confidentiality andmanagement of information.

Ensure that essential informationon the patients condition and progress is recorded in accordance with Trustguidelines

Promote and value the rights,responsibilities and diversity of people ensuring religious and culturalneeds are addressed

Education,Health, Safety and Security

Ensure safe keeping andtransportation of patient property and valuables in accordance with Trustpolicy

Ensure equipment and resources areused appropriately, efficiently and economically

Participate in in-service training

Complete priority and mandatorytraining requirements in the required time frames.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care, Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Support or equivalent health care related qualification
  • The Care Certificate or in the absence of this the applicant must successfully attain the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Commitment to undergo training and education as required
  • Basic skills Maths and English Level 1 (equivalent of GCSE 1-9 (A*-G))
