Overview of the Job

Our Community Liver Health Checks program’s Clinical Support Workers assist with the launch of a novel pilot initiative that offers community screening for cirrhosis in individuals in hard-to-reach groups. Through cirrhosis screening and liver health interventions, this research seeks to identify individuals who are currently utilising local alcohol and drug programs or other community services. Supporting patients to attend screening and offering direct patient incentives to promote screening attendance are the goals of this research.

The Greater Manchester Viral Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network (ODN) will strategically organise the community outreach efforts. The position holder will collaborate closely with the MRI Hepatology Service and the Infectious Diseases outreach service at community sites.

Principal responsibilities of the position

In addition to working operationally with the Operational Delivery Network for Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire, the position will be community-based, with a base at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Blood tests, fibroscans (a type of ultrasound used to evaluate liver health; comprehensive training will be provided), results delivery, and interacting with patients who are found to be cirrhotic in order to persuade them to attend additional hospital screenings and provide them with health promotion guidance are all part of the job description. The position holder will collaborate closely with our primary care, probation, drug, and homelessness colleagues. Programs with current peer support systems offered by those organisations and the nonprofit sector will fall under this category.
