Job summary
We are looking for a highly motivated Clinical Support Worker to join our Team.
The Hawthorn Recovery Unit is based at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield and provides assessment and treatment for older adults experiencing mental health problems.
This role is all about engagement with service users and promoting independence and recovery.
You will lead group sessions as well as provide support to service users on an individual basis.
Main duties of the job
- Planning and running group sessions
- Supporting nutritional and hydration needs during lunch sessions
- Welcoming and orientating service users, family members and visitors
- Carrying out physical health monitoring such as vital signs and ECG
- Recording clinical progress notes in patient electronic records
- Making triage telephone calls to service users or family members
- Assisting service users with mobilising and personal care when needed
- Accompanying service users to appointments
- Administrative duties such as processing transport bookings
- Environmental and safety checks

Qualifications and Knowledge – Essential
- Educated to A level or NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
Qualifications and Knowledge – Desirable
- Additional training e.g. first aid, food handling, phlebotomy.
- Knowledge of recovery and enablement approaches within mental health.
- Knowledge of the benefits of engaging in activity.
- Knowledge of mental health conditions.
Experience – Essential
- Experience of working in a role that requires people engagement.
- Experience of working with older adults or in a mental health setting.
- Experience of planning and running groups or activities.
Experience – Desirable
- Experience of using electronic patient records.
- Experience of carrying out physical health checks e.g. vital signs, ECG.
Skills – Essential
- Ability to plan and run groups and activities independently.
- Excellent communication skills in person, by phone or videocall.
- Ability to prioritise and problem‑solve within daily management of work.
- Adapt communication and approach to facilitate people experiencing hearing or sight impairment, cognitive changes or high anxiety, and to be sensitive to engage those whose first language is not English.
- Good IT skills to include use of email, Word and progress notes in patient electronic records.
Skills – Desirable
- Specific activity skills e.g. cooking, exercise, art, gardening, discussion, cognitive stimulation, relaxation.
Personal Qualities – Essential
