A leading healthcare provider in Skipton is seeking an experienced Physiotherapist to coordinate and lead cancer rehabilitation services. This role involves designing exercise protocols, working with a multidisciplinary team, and facilitating patient support. The position aims to enhance patient resilience and improve health outcomes. You'll be part of an inclusive and dynamic team, contributing to a new healthcare facility planned for 2030. The role offers competitive benefits and promotes diversity in the workplace.
This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Physiotherapist to support the development, implementation, continuous monitoring and improvement of the Active Together Programme for a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. The role of clinical specialist physiotherapist is to lead, deliver and sustain the success of the exercise element of the Active Together Programme at Airedale, working collaboratively with the operational manager. The Active Together programme runs alongside the existing diagnostic and treatment pathways to ensure patients are optimally prepared for treatment and beyond. It aims to maximise resilience to treatment, improve longer term health, minimise side effects and empower patients to be partners in their healthcare.
The programme combines physical activity, nutritional support and psychological support alongside the clinical pathway. This is a funded 5-year staged implementation programme. Patients receive individual assessments and are triaged into a support pathway suitable to their needs. This is delivered within locality or selected facilities closest to the patient's home or may be a self‑management pathway.
You will be joining a small friendly team based at Skipton Hospital consisting of the Operational Manager, another Physiotherapist, a Dietitian, a Psychologist, and plans to recruit a Project co‑ordinator, and Fitness Instructors in the future. In addition, you will lead and support the implementation of the Cancer Prehabilitation services at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, in conjunction with the Operation Lead.
At Airedale, we are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. We actively encourage applications irrespective of people's age, lived experience of living with a disability or long‑term conditions, gender, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or other personal circumstances. Increasing our diversity and supporting our organisation to be more inclusive is a key priority here at Airedale and our teams are at the centre of how we work towards this. We appreciate all people may have diverse and individual needs and we pride ourselves on supporting all people to thrive and flourish at work. We have frameworks in place that support reasonable adjustments and flexible working for colleagues throughout their working lives which starts at recruitment.
This is an exciting time for Airedale. We have the once‑in‑a‑career opportunity to be involved in the planning and building of a completely new hospital here on our Steeton site by 2030. By joining us now you'll be a key part of our journey over the next few years, with the chance to input into a state‑of‑the‑art, modern healthcare facility that will deliver care to our communities for decades to come. We are also on the journey to a new electronic patient record, part of our wider ambition for our digital future - a future that builds on our significant telemedicine and digital care success. Ultimately, what makes Airedale special is our people. Not just our staff, but our volunteers, patients, visitors, and wider population who make up the Airedale family. This is a Trust that sits at the heart of our community, and our communities are very proud of their Trust.
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust Therapy Services have been working collaboratively with Yorkshire Cancer Research and Sheffield Hallam University to deliver the Active Together programme for people of Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven who have been diagnosed with cancer. We are currently working with patients diagnosed with colorectal, or breast cancer, with plans to open up to other cancer sites.
