Job description

Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - ASD, ADHD & Sensory Differences

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our specialist paediatric team. As an autonomous practitioner, you will provide expert assessment and intervention for children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and sensory differences that impact on functional performance, participation and independence.

Using highly specialised clinical reasoning skills, you will assess and manage complex presentations and co-existing conditions, delivering advanced interventions, practical strategies and advice tailored to individual needs. You will work closely with children, families, carers and education staff to support positive outcomes across home, school and community settings.

You will also play a key role in supporting the development of colleagues through mentoring, supervision and the delivery of training across sites. The post holder may be required to work across three Children's Centres and contribute to a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled clinician who is passionate about improving the lives of children and young people with neurodevelopmental and sensory needs through expert, family-centred occupational therapy practice.

  • To work closely as part of the Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team and wider multi-disciplinary team with all hospital based and community colleagues in order to maintain continuity of service
  • To independently manage own daily complex caseload as part of a multidisciplinary team, triaging paediatric patients, ensuring that patients are seen by the most appropriate healthcare professional
  • To be responsible for the effective treatment and management of Service users with a primary or suspected ASD, ADHD diagnosis or sensory difficulties presentation impacting upon occupation and independence; requiring assessment, care planning and intervention in Children Centre’s and community settings in order to facilitate appropriate pathway management, maximise their independence and functional ability
  • To develop the service for children and young people with ASD, ADHD and sensory difficulties working in collaboration with Neuro-developmental Service and Integrated Autism service. Ensuring pathways and processes are clear and defined for ease of navigation and to maximise demand and capacity of Occupational Therapy provisions
  • To take a lead role in the post-graduate education of Occupational Therapy colleagues and other professions
  • Impart knowledge and skills, guiding further knowledge acquisition and acting as a mentor
