Job summary

Active Care Group is seeking a Clinical Skills Trainer to join the Clinical Skills team for the South region. This nurse-qualified post is home based with travel across Surrey and surrounding areas, 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday, with occasional overnight stays.

You will train and assess non-registered staff in essential clinical skills and support the nursing team to raise standards of care. Requirements include current NMC registration, UK work rights, and recent experience delivering clinical

Qualifications

  • Current NMC registration (essential).
  • Legal right to work in the U.K.
  • Recent experience delivering clinical training within complex care settings (essential).
  • Up to date on best practice for interventions with spinal injuries, ABI, learning disabilities, neurological conditions.
  • Independent, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and organisational skills.
  • Training qualification (Teaching & Assessing award, Mentorship award, Safer People Handling Trainer/Assessor) or willingness to work towards one and driving license.

Responsibilities

  • Train and assess non-registered staff in mandatory clinical skills (medication administration, continence care, insulin, bowel management, buccal midazolam, rectal meds).
  • Support training and nursing teams to develop staff in clinical skills including Neurogenic Bowel Management.
  • Train and assess staff in clinical skills such as suction, tracheostomy care, ventilation, enteral feeding, catheterisation.
  • Deliver group or one-to-one sessions as required.
  • Prepare and manage learning environments and resources to maximise learner experience.
  • Update specialist knowledge in line with current best practice guidelines.
  • Contribute to review of training resources and content.
  • Attend team meetings and other required meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge and competence via CPD and supervision.
  • Inform L&D/Service Manager of issues affecting quality of care and safety.
  • Liaise with various departments as needed.

37.5 hours Monday - Friday

Location: Surrey Area. The role is home based with travel across the Surrey area. Occasional overnight stays will be required when necessary. Availability to work away from home with overnight stays.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Train and assess non-registered staff (Support Workers, HCA, RA and at times Bank Nurses and other relevant staff) in mandatory skills such as Medication administration, Continence Care, insulin administration, bowel management, buccal midazolam, along with medication administered rectally.
  • Work with the training and wider nursing team to support the training, development of staff in clinical skills including Neurogenic Bowel Management and competency training.
  • Train and assess relevant staff in clinical skills such as Suction, Tracheostomy Care, Ventilation, Enteral Feed, Catheterisation etc if required.
  • Deliver additional group or one to one session as required.
  • Preparation and management of the learning environment/ resources to maximize the learner experience.
  • Update specialist knowledge and skills in line with current best practice guidelines.
  • Contribute to the review of training and development resources and content.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Maintain own knowledge and competence by undertaking appropriate continuing professional development and clinical/nonclinical supervision as needed.
  • Inform the L&D Manager/Service Manager & relevant others, of any issues that are likely to adversely impact quality of client care and/or health and safety of employees.
  • Liaise with various departments as needed.
What you’ll have:

  • Training qualification i.e., Teaching & Assessing award, Mentorship award, Safer People Handling Trainer and /or Assessor, or be willing to work towards Car owner with full UK driving license
